Our Conductor: James Wolfe

James joined the band a couple of years ago and has steered the band through two summer seasons and a couple of Christmas concerts, each one better than the last. Like any conductor of a comunity band, he has had to tread the path between rehearsing and 'having a blow' and has adapted to the challenge, carried along by his sense of humour - which only occasionally needs explanation.

One of his major innovations has been to introduce professional soloists into our concerts, giving us all a chance to experience, so far, the melifluous sound of the clarinet played brilliantly and the smooth but powerful graciousness of the flute.

Now the formal bit...

James studied at Trinity College of Music, was the founder member of Tradewinds Clarinet quartet, giving many recitals at St. Martin’s in the Fields, broadcasting live on Classic FM and playing principal clarinet for Court Opera for six seasons at Holland Park Theatre. For the last four years James has conducted The Finchley Symphonic Concert Band, raising over £1800 for the British Heart Foundation. He has been the clarinet specialist for Harrow Arts for Schools for the last fourteen years.

***CONDUCTOR UPDATE!***

Unfortunately, James made his final appearance as the band conductor at our ever popular Finchley Nurseries gig in September 2007.  He will be missed, and has promised to come back to guest with us once in a while.  The band would like to wish him well in his future projects and thank him for the dedication and hard work that he has given, the band has flourished under his leadership.  Roger, our deputy conductor, has done a sterling job in bringing the band on since James left, and the band is currently looking for a permanent conductor to join Roger in taking us forward in 2008.
